Hi guys!
I just got my first 500e, and am stoked! It's a beautiful orange with white'n'orange seats. I love it!!!!!

i've only had it for 2 months. I bought it used with 10,000 miles on it, so fairly new. I had a concerning observation and I hope some of the senior folks here can help me out...

Yesterday, I took it for it's first long drive on the highway, with the heater on, and on coming back, the battery gauge showed 20% remaining. I plugged it into my EVSE which has an app that shows you statistics like energy added (eMotorwerks Juicebox). After charging to a 100% from 20%, the EVSE said it added only 11.9KWh of energy....

If 80% (100-20) of capacity is 11.9KWh,
100% = (11.9/.8) = 14.75KWh!!!!

The capacity is supposed to be 24KWh. 14.75 capacity means that it has degraded to 60% capacity?!! Am I doing something wrong here?

I have the same issue, and am glad to see your post. My e has about 37K miles and since I purchased it used at 35K, it has been consistently only taking about 13 kWh after a 52 mile journey, as reported by Chargepoint. This is fine and represents 4 mi/kWh consumption, which is prettty good. But it is down to a displayed state of charge 20% after this trip, and charges to a displayed 100%. Similar to your case, this means the displayed capacity is only 16 ish kWh, way below the supposed 24 kWh total capacity of the pack when new. The trip meter displays a consumption average for the trip of about 4.2 mi/kWh, which is wrong. Assuming the distance meter is correct ( I need to verify) then the energy calculation is erring on the low side. This, I think, should mean that the pack SOC display should be erring on the high side, i.e. saying 20% when it is only 19%. This would suggest that my 13 kWh/.80 = 16.25 kWh should really be 13/(.80x4.2/4.0)=15.5 kWh.

I would understand it if the display is converting the SOC from an actual 20-80% to a displayed 0-100% as part of a strategy to extend battery life, but I have not read that this is the case, and I'd think it would be known by now in these forums if that was what's going on.

Without being able to look at battery voltage I can not verify state of charge, which I would like to do so I can determine how degraded the battery may be. I am not confident I can do this safely. I also have not attempted to connect through the 'OBD like' connector because I understand it is a very bad idea to try to use any standard readers through that connector.

Luckily, this range still works for me and otherwise the car is awesome, aside from tire noise. I run them at 37-40 psi.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to verify state of charge?

I can tell you that using Konnwei KW902 OBDII BT reader with android ALFAOBD app works perfectly and you can monitor in realtime many battery parameters.

Thanks for the info, though I am nervous about trying the Konnwei. I checked out Konwei's website and it was pretty suspect, as there was no info on this product, or many others in their product list. On Amazon, some Konnwei devices have known short issues due to too low resistance. Other interfaces have show a complex array of adapters needed to redirect the pins.

Where did you purchase the Konnwei?
Are you the one who made the video?
